Pétanque Boules
Every game of pétanque starts with the right boules. Choose competition boules for FIPJP-approved play. They are made of carbon steel or stainless steel, in the weight, diameter and hardness you prefer. Or choose leisure boules for relaxed games with friends and family. Every game also needs a cochonnet. Do you need a bag for your boules? See our pétanque equipment and clothing, or see all boules.

About Boules Balls
Competition boules are precision-manufactured to FIPJP-approved tolerances for weight, diameter and hardness, while leisure boules are more affordable and designed for casual play without strict regulation requirements.
Most competition boules are made from carbon steel or stainless steel (inox), with stainless steel typically offering better rust resistance and a slightly different feel underfoot on the court.
Each player typically uses three boules in singles and doubles play, or two boules per player in triples — plus one cochonnet shared by both teams.
Shooters (tireurs) often prefer boules with less grip for cleaner strikes, while pointers (pointeurs) may prefer softer, higher-grip boules for placing shots close tomthe cochonnet — many players choose a balance suited to both roles.
